Windows 7 may be priced too high

Microsoft has been getting their buts kicked in the “Mac vs PC” campaign by Apple have needed a new product to save them from the Vista debacle, enter Windows 7. The new Windows 7 OS from Microsoft has garnered praise from many who have been using the new beta and it seems like the OS that bring the fight back to Apple. But is seems that Microsofy may be shooting themselves in the foot with their pricing. The stripped-down version of Windows 7 called the Starter Edition is said to be the savior for Microsoft and their rep, but it might not be after all.
The Starter Edition will be aimed towards those who can’t afford a full upgrade and for OEM makers of netbooks. Windows 7 has been optimized well for use with netbooks and may be a big market for them, but at $45-55 for the Starter Editions (compared to $15 for XP) it may be a little too costly. Microsoft wants to be the OS of choice for notebook computers but they may be pricing themselves out of the market, sure $55 doesn’t sound like much but these days manufacturers are trying to save wherever they can. Increasing the price of a notebook won’t help manufacturers who are using price as a selling feature versus the popular Mac Books, Microsoft will have to bring their prices down.
