Slowing economy cause slow down in HDTV price drops

With our slow economy and thousands losing their jobs every week you would think the price for most electronics would drop? That doesn’t seem to be the case at all. DisplaySearch says that they have projected a slow year in 2009 for TV sales. They expect all TV sales to decline by 4 percent in North America and LCD TV sales to grow only 2 percent. For reference LCD TV sales grew by 22 percent in 2008 and 77 percent in 2007. HDTV factories have slowed down production because of the expected down turn in sales which will slow the amount of price drops we’ll see. Manufacturers in Korea and Taiwan have reduced production by as much as 80 percent. Looks like Black Friday was the time to get an HDTV, if you missed out then try and snag one now because it appears that they won’t get any cheaper.
Mr. Semenza [of DisplaySearch] expects that prices for LCD sets 32 inches and smaller will remain fairly stable. Retail prices on TVs 42 inches and larger will not decline as fast as they have in years past.
