CNN Hologram! sorta…

The whole country watched the results of the 2008 Presidential elections on CNN and no doubt noticed the addition of “holograms” to the discussions process. Contrary to what the sci-fi geek within me would LOVE to believe, those were not really holograms. Instead, a sophisticaed system was implemented to give the Television viewer the illusion of a 3 dimensional hologram. In reality, the person was actually in a studio surrounded by a ring of cameras (35 HD cameras to be exact) in Chicago which were then synchronized to CNN’s cameras. The CNN anchor was in actually talking to nothing! The image of the “hologram” was then broadcast onto the video from CNN itself. It is in reality just a complex special effects trick. Sorry to all those Star Wars fans out there, it might still take a few years before you can have your holographic Princess Leia
