Webcam augmented reality is nothing new, others have been using it for quite some time. Like in the Sony PS3’s Eye of Judgment, but this is the first time we’ve seen it in a magazine ad. MINI is using this technology for their new MINI Cabrio ad making this new realtime 3D rendering pretty useful. German car magazine on the shelves now have a simple black and white ad for the new MINI Cabrio but viewed through a webcam and the MINI website the MINI Cabrio becomes a 3D model. It does take some effort from the reader but this is still a first of its kind.
